DAY 1) LJUBLJANA – FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Arrival in Ljubljana and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is left open for a first introduction to the Slovenian capital. Depending on arrival time, you can walk into the historic centre, follow the Ljubljanica River, stop at one of the riverside cafés or simply enjoy the atmosphere of the old town at their own pace. It’s the perfect start to the itinerary filled with unforgettable landscapes and hiking in Slovenia. Overnight in Ljubljana.
DAY 2) ACTIVE CITY DAY IN LJUBLJANA
Spend the day discovering Ljubljana in a more active way. Begin in the historic centre with Prešeren Square, the Triple Bridge, the riverside markets and Ljubljana Castle. The city stands on the site of Roman Emona, established in the 1st century AD, while much of its distinctive modern identity was shaped by architect Jože Plečnik, whose works in Ljubljana were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Continue by bicycle beyond the classic city centre: choose a route to Žale Cemetery and Church of St Michael in Črna Vas, one of Plečnik’s most remarkable architectural ensembles. End the day at one of Ljubljana’s restaurants serving authentic Slovenian cuisine. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Hiking in Slovenia
DAY 3) HIKING VELIKA PLANINA
Travel towards the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and ascend to Velika Planina, one of Slovenia’s most distinctive high-mountain plateaus. Walk among traditional herdsmen’s huts, open pastures and wide Alpine views. The day can include a shorter scenic walk or a longer hiking route. Return to Ljubljana and spend the final night in the city.
DAY 4) LAKE BLED & RADOVLJICA CHARM
Continue towards Lake Bled, framed by the Julian Alps and known for its island church and castle rising above the water. Enjoy one of the most scenic experiences of hiking in Slovenia with a walk around the lake and an optional climb to one of its panoramic viewpoints. An optional ride on Zipline Dolinka Bled, the longest zipline experience in Europe, can also be added. Later continue to Radovljica, a small medieval town with a beautifully preserved centre, elegant houses and a quieter local atmosphere. Overnight in the Alpine region.
DAY 5) ACTIVE ALPINE DAY IN BOHINJ
Spend the next day around Lake Bohinj, in the heart of Triglav National Park. Follow the lakeshore, enjoy the mountain scenery and continue towards Voje valley for a more active walk. Depending on the season and weather, the programme can also include kayaking, paddleboarding or another water activity. Bohinj has a more relaxed Alpine feel, with plenty of options for an active day. Overnight in the Alpine region.
DAY 6) KRANJSKA GORA, LAKE JASNA & ZELENCI
Travel to Kranjska Gora and begin with an easy walk around Lake Jasna, with views of the Julian Alps. For a more active morning, an optional cycling or e-bike route around Kranjska Gora can be added. Stop for lunch in Kranjska Gora before continuing in the afternoon to the Zelenci Nature Reserve, where a short trail and wooden boardwalks lead to the emerald-green source of the Sava Dolinka River. Return through the Alpine region and spend the night in the Alpine region.
Hiking in Slovenia
DAY 7) BREATHTAKING POSTOJNA CAVE & PREDJAMA CASTLE
Leave the Alps and travel towards Slovenia’s Karst region. Visit Postojna Cave, one of the country’s best-known natural attractions, where an underground train and walking route reveal vast chambers, stalactites and stalagmites. Continue to Predjama Castle, dramatically built into a sheer limestone cliff and connected with centuries of legends and stories. Afterwards continue towards the Slovenian coast. Overnight in coastal area.
DAY 8) ACTIVE COASTAL ESCAPE
Discover Piran, a compact historic town shaped by centuries of Venetian influence. Walk through Tartini Square, climb towards St George’s Church and enjoy views from the old town walls. Later, explore more of Slovenian Istria by cycling part of the Parenzana, the former railway line that once connected towns across Istria.
